WHAT IS IT? Level 1 Trades Training is the first step in education/training to prepare students for employment/apprenticeship in the trade area of their choice. Level 1 includes instruction (school) and apprenticeship hours (hands on).
APPRENTICESHIP AND SECONDARY SCHOOL APPRENTICESHIP (SSA) Upon completion of a Foundations program students receive their Level 1 training certification and may seek employment as apprentices to gain on the job experience. Students who have apprenticeship placements before the end of high school can register with our Secondary School Apprenticeship (SSA) program. Students can bank hours and receive credit for apprenticeship work while in high school. Please contact Ms. Patty Burr (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more info about SSA. If you are planning a career in the Trades please see Ms. Amstutz or Ms. Burr to understand your options. There are many options and it can be complicated! If you have decided to take a Delta School District program in your Grade 12 year and need to start the paperwork please see Ms. Burr, preferably by February of Grade 11. There are many educational and scholarship options available.
BCIT WAIT LIST TIME AND HOW TO DECREASE IT - DO A PRE-TEST! Waitlists for trades entry can be long but you can decrease this time by completing a BCIT or Kwantlen pre-test.
BCIT Pre-tests at SDSS - Students can request to do a BCIT pre-test during their study block at SDSS. Order the test through your own personal site on the BCIT website - you will need your BCIT A00........ number that you received when your applied. Request a test sent to SDSS, attention: Ms. Amstutz. When the test arrives Ms. Amstutz will call you down to set up a time to do the test. Pre-tests can also be done at the BCIT campus.
